![]() And the program's professional printing acumen gets a boost with the ability to create spot-color channels. PHOTO-PAINT's new Cutout Lab borrows technology from Corel KnockOut to ease the task of extracting photographed subjects from their backgrounds. This excellent feature encourages experimentation by eliminating risk. These are collected in a strip at the bottom of the window, and clicking one returns the image to its state when the snapshot was taken. Best of all, you can take snapshots of the image as you work. In one place, this window collects many of the most common commands used for correcting digital photos (in CorelDRAW, you use the Image Adjustment Lab is used on imported bitmaps). A Hints docker gives information and advice about the currently selected tool, and both applications include the excellent new Image Adjustment Lab. ![]() And with the new Bevel docker, you can easily give a three-dimensional look to vector objects, although (as with other dockers) it's a drag to have to click on the Apply button repeatedly to update the art as you adjust settings.ĬorelDRAW and PHOTO-PAINT share a couple of new features. When image editing, the Crop tool lets you remove all portions of objects that fall outside the boundary you trace. The dedicated Star and Complex Star features make drawing pointy polygons easier. Smart Fill requires just one click to detect the edges of overlapping paths and create a new object to fill the intersecting area with color. But CorelDRAW does have some new tools worthy of mention. A WYSIWYG font menu, automatic hyphenation, and interactive type-on-a-path handling also enhance the product's way with words.Ī new program in the suite, Pixmantec RawShooter essentials 2005, may seem like a bonus, but its inclusion signals that truly integrated support for RAW photo formats is still missing from the suite. There are new dockers (the program's terminology for palettes) for formatting characters and whole paragraphs of text. PowerTRACE doesn't deliver quite the degree of control found in Illustrator CS2's similar new tool, but the before/after interface is easier to use, and the results are in roughly the same ballpark as what you'll get from Illustrator.ĬorelDRAW's text handling has also gotten an upgrade. This totally redesigned tool lets you turn pixel-based images like logos into resolution-free vector art, and it's the strongest new feature in the suite. ![]() CorelTRACE (useful for converting bitmaps into vectors), though, only appears to be gone-it's actually been incorporated into the CorelDRAW application, and the technology is now called PowerTRACE. One, the vector animation program Corel R.A.V.E., is indeed no longer included. Version 12 users will notice that two supporting applications seem to be missing. The new version, CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X3 (read "thirteen"), adds some strong new tools and refinements to an already excellent package. The $399 suite consists primarily of the vector drawing program CorelDRAW and the image editor PHOTO-PAINT.
